Project Description
The Collaborative Leadership Building at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Canada Flintridge is a new STEAM center that anchors the north end of the campus’ academic core. The third phase of a $20 million master plan, the new building vertically integrates design thinking research and student leadership in a dynamic, collaborative environment. The building seamlessly interconnects three distinct programs -STEAM, global studies and student leadership – through common areas and an open, sky lit central stair. The instructional wing south of the central atrium has been structured for maximum flexibility and anticipates future change as programs evolve. The building is configured to encourage movement from one space to another with generous openings, glass walls flexible furniture and thoughtfully integrated instructional media. The design also emphasizes transparency and strong connections between indoor and outdoor learning spaces The art studio and maker space have glazed, bi-fold overhead doors to allow supervised activity to spill out onto adjacent work terraces. This building, designed collaboratively with administrative leaders and faculty provides new, transformative opportunities for teaching and learning. John Dale was Principal-in-Charge and lead designer for HED, the Architect of Record.
